Congrats Coach Revelle
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska softball coach Rhonda Revelle has been inducted into the hall of fame. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association honored Revelle Friday at the group's annual convention, but the award was announced last year. Revelle was honored because of her consistent success at Nebraska where she is in her 19th season. Revelle has a 680-371 record, and her Nebraska teams have won six Big 12 titles and made two trips to the women's College World Series. Her teams have qualified for the NCAA tournament in 15 of the past 16 seasons. Revelle says she's honored to be inducted. Before coming to Nebraska, Revelle coached one season at Nebraska Wesleyan and earned eight wins, so her career record is 688-387. Revelle also played for Nebraska from 1981 to 1983. |

14A USA/ASA Nationals
After a great start to the week with pool play victories, the Xplosion were dealt a very disappointing loss in the opening bracket game to the Pittsburgh (PA) Predators. The ladies showed their character and determination by sweeping 4 straight games in the loser's bracket before falling to the Cincy Doom '95 by a final score of 3-0 on Saturday morning. What a great tournament and season with many highlights to end the KC Xplosion tradition.
Pool Play
Game 1: KC Xplosion vs Firebirds '95 (Waukesha, WI): Won 14-2, 4 innings
Notes from the game: Xplosion took advantage of early mistakes by the Firebirds scoring 3 runs in the 1st and 2 in the 2nd before blowing the game open in the 3rd inning with 7 runs. Another pair of runs were scored in the 4th for the final tally. The game was called due to the run ahead rule. Great start to the tourney against the Wisconsin ASA State Champs!
Game 2: KC Xplosion vs BNGSA Angels 14 (Bloomington/Normal, IL): Won 2-1
Notes from the game: Xplosion fell behind early 1-0, but rallied for single runs in the 4th and 7th on a pair of timely hits to earn the victory. Another victory over a state champion, allowing the Xplosion to grab the #1 seed from their pool.
From the Quad-City Times: Offense to defense for KC Xplosion: The KC Xplosion exploded for 14 runs in their opener on Monday, but needed to rely on their defense to pull out Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the BNGSA Angels of Illinois. The game-winner came in the seventh inning on Taylor Brunson's single and stolen base and an RBI hit by Ciera Carbajo.
Bracket Play
Game 3: KC Xplosion vs Pittsburgh (PA) Predators: Lost 1-0
Notes from the game: The Xplosion could not solve the outstanding pitching from the Predators and were shut-out and no-hit for the first time in several years. A 2-out RBI single with runners at 1st and 2nd was all that was needed by the Predators to capture the hard fought victory. No Xplosion baserunner advanced beyond 2nd base during the game.
From the Quad-City Times: Pittsburgh Predators pitcher Jayne Oberdorf added to the tournament's no-hit count, winning a 1-0 duel with Kansas City Xplosion hurler Jenni Brooks. Oberdorf struck out 10, walked one and had three errors committed behind her. Jen Moran had the game's lone RBI on a two-out single in the fourth inning.
Game 4: KC Xplosion vs Tennessee Xplosion: Won 3-0
Notes from the game: A quick start was all that was needed for the ladies to advance. Single runs in the 1st, 3rd and and an insurance run in the 6th were all that was needed to seal the victory. Only one Tennessee Xplosion baserunner advanced to 2nd base as they were limited to 1 hit in the game.
From the Quad-City Times: KC Xplosion 3, Tennessee Xplosion 0: In the battle of Xplosions, KC got shutout pitching from Allison Stewart.
Game 5: KC Xplosion vs Texas Peppers: Won 3-0
Notes from the game: Lots of baserunners were stranded by the Xplosion, but single runs in the 3rd, 4th and an insurance run in the 6th sealed the shutout victory.
From the Quad-City Times: Jenni Brooks spun a four-hit shutout and doubled at the plate. Cassidy Berry scored after both of her hits for KC.
Game 6: KC Xplosion vs Central Florida Attack: Won 4-2
Notes from the game: More stranded runners and lack of timely hits, but the Xplosion ladies prevailed with a 4-2 victory to continue to advance through the Loser's bracket.
From the Quad-City Times: The Xplosion did their damage in the first two innings with three of their runs. Leadoff hitter Madison Jones had two hits and two runs in those innings.
Game 7: KC Xplosion vs Pittsburgh (PA) Road Runners: Won 7-5
Notes from the game: After beginning like the last team to bat would win, the game turned into a solid matchup with the Xplosion prevailing. 9 of the 12 runs scored by both teams crossed the plate in the first 2 innings of the game. The ladies have made it to Saturday!
Game 8: KC Xplosion vs Cincy Doom '95: Lost 3-0
Notes from the game: After 5 scoreless innings, the Doom opened the bottom of the 6th with a double that led to 3 runs in their final at bat for the win. The Xplosion hit several balls hard, but each seemed to be right at a Doom fielder. Great effort in the final game and final tournament for the KC Xplosion.

2010 ASA KC METRO CHAMPS!
The ladies prepared for the upcoming Colorado Fireworks Tournament with an undefeated run through the 14A division of the 2010 ASA KC Metro Tournament at Hidden Valley in Blue Springs, MO over the weekend. For the tournament, the Xplosion outscored their opponents 38-5, and got great pitching and defense by allowing only 1 hit in the first three games played, highlighted by back-to-back no hitters in pool play. Bracket play began with resounding victories over the Southside Slammers and the KC Elite, only to be followed by close games against a very good KC Force team.
The championship game was a back and forth classic as the KC Force struck first with a run in the bottom of the 1st, only to have the Xplosion post 3 runs in the 2nd. The Force tied the game at 3 in the bottom half of the 2nd, and the score would remain deadlocked until the top of the 6th after time had expired. In the international tiebreaker, the Xplosion ladies were able to push across a single run in the top half of the inning and hold on for their second victory of the weekend over the Force and the championship.
Sunday, June 20, 2010
The Xplosion again tested their skills against 18A competition and passed the test losing in the single elimination tournament to the area's perennial top club, the KC Peppers Gold. Along the way, the ladies went 2-1 in pool play, before stringing together 3 hard fought wins to reach the tournament semi-finals in the 35 team field. Modified rules were used throughout the entire tournament with runners on base each inning in pool play games. Bracket games also used slightly modified rules with each batter beginning with a 1-1 count. In the end, it was another great weekend of successful softball for the KC Xplosion.
